Spiritual Revelations Of knowing Thy Self

Question:  Why do you place so much emphasis on self-knowing?

Adonis:  Without understanding ones self, you can never know if there is anything beyond the self.  Surely to understand myself I must look into the facts of my life.  That which is meaningful and urgent is for me to go into the understanding of my thoughts, feelings, desires and fears, without getting lost in ideas about the unknown.  I do not know myself and so of course, I know nothing about the unknown.  That is rather simple.  I see that thought is a common reference point in which I may examine consciousness, because thought is all that I know.  It is to see that in thought, there are all my fears and desires.  If I am at all intelligent, surely this is where I must begin.

For countless centuries, so many so-called enlightened Beings have said to look within oneself for the truth, but what does that mean?  As you begin to ponder into such a thing, you may notice that the mind is constantly thinking, restlessly moving.  This constant movement prevents clear seeing and understanding.  I do not see beyond the surface because my consciousness is clouded and cluttered by endless thoughts of various kinds.  Therefore, I watch, listen and wonder why my mind makes all this noise.  I do not formulate an idea of why or accept what others may or may not have said.  What is essential is that I simply find out for myself, which is self-knowledge.

Now to understand myself and what I am, I must see the importance of being attentive to my thoughts and emotions.  I discover that as I watch and listen to myself without judgment, condemnation or censoring, what I am unfolds and the truth of what I am unfurls.  I do not look for a particular result of any kind.  I am simply learning the truth about myself, my life and all that I am without hiding or escaping the facts of what I am.

Therefore, throughout the day and night, there is this watchfulness, this witnessing that does not reach a conclusion.  Now as I watch and learn from moment to moment, there is the art of changing with change, which is a movement of the changeless.    All things come and go in this unchanging background.  This means, I leave it at that and realize there is nothing for me to do.  In seeing this, I am free of whatever comes or goes in my life, in my consciousness.  In the movement of perception, there is no attachment to anyone or anything.  There is simply the flow of life, happening in and around me.  There is no desire or fear of what is taking place, when I just let life flow and discover no matter what happens, that is life.  The desire to control life is illusory.  There is nothing for you to do and that is such a great beauty to discover.

Question:   Now, I am beginning to understand.

Adonis:  Can you live in this?  Live in this non-conclusive watchfulness of every thought and feeling without trying to arrest what comes and goes?

Question:  It is not easy.

Adonis:  It is not a matter of it being difficult or easy.  It is life without control and attachment.

Question:  I promise I will listen to what you are saying.  I love you, Adonis.

Adonis:  Then listen with the wholeness of your being, non-conclusively from moment to moment.

Question:  I love you.  However, I know you are not going to acknowledge that.

Adonis:  Woman, in me there is this love beyond your words; no one and nothing can touch or taint that timeless essence.

Question:  I love you very much.

Adonis:  To the point of no return?

Question:  If you are going to love, then love has to be deeply.

Adonis:  To love is without measure, without sentiment.  Or else, it is just romanticism.

Question:  Or there is no love at all.  I feel that I am getting closer to you.

Adonis:  We are one and all that is mere verbosity, if you are into all that.

Question:  Something like that.

Adonis:  Not two trying to become one?

Question:  I like how you said that.

Adonis:  There is 'no me' and 'no you', just love?

Question:  Yes, nice way to express it.

Adonis:  Is love, the complete movement of compassion seeing into its own sacred essence?

Question:  I like the way you express yourself.

Adonis:  This means that love is not a thought, not a feeling, not an emotion, but the totality of being.  Which means the sacred presence comes when the 'you' and the ‘not you’ are absent.

What is important is to awaken to this of ones own accord.  That is the only way out of this monstrous world.  You must discover the sacred essence, here and now.  As human beings, we are so pretentious, superficial and false. So many of us are pretending to be religious and spiritual when in fact we do not possess any self-knowledge of ourselves or truth.  No one wants to be whatever he or she is. Everyone is trying to be something other than what they are.  Therefore, they have this image about themselves and they become frustrated and disappointed, if you see through their imagery!  They want to aggrandize themselves and if you do not go along with the circus, they see you as a culprit that threatens the groundwork of their illusion. Many of us do not know anything that we propose to know and we refuse to listen to anything other than what we want to hear.

So many of us pretend to be something greater and therefore superior to another.  You may have had some spiritual experiences but that does not make you any greater than another.  Like those of the so-called New Age movement who are deeply lost.  The thing is you may have escaped the orthodox prison and now you are trapped in an unorthodox prison.  A prison that is full of so many superstitions and ideas about religion and spirituality, but it is all hearsay.  So now, you have moved from one prison into another.

My primary concern is for each of us as human beings to be our own teacher and learn from there.  The mentality of anyone wanting me to be their personal guide is truly appalling.  That would undermine everything that I say concerning thinking for oneself.  If you are at all attentive to anything that we have been discussing surely you could see the legitimacy of all I have been saying.

Question:  Thank you for your compassion and insights.

Adonis:  We will speak again.
