Spiritual Reflection Within
Question: I am a little puzzled about you not advocating a technique of meditation, what do you mean and why do you say forget about the unknown, the unseen. Also, why is it you do not concern yourself with different levels of spiritual development? Then tell me exactly what you mean by the fullness of perception.
Adonis: Then be puzzled, that is a start. Why live your life in assumptions? If you do not understand something for yourself, then it is not self-knowledge. Now, it may seem rather absurd to discover that there is nothing for you to do, nothing at all. You see, I deny the unseen all together. The self does not know of the unseen, the unknown. The self is the known. Because it is manufactured by the mind as memory, that is its limitation, confined to the lifeless past.
Forget about levels, degrees, paths. All such thinking is of the 'self,' wanting to aggrandize and continue. Out of fear and ignorance we want to keep ourselves going and so growing, progressing and development becomes most important. Through the process of time we think we can come upon the timeless. That is why I remove the self, which is of time, completely from the equation. It has no ground to stand on. It is completely out of the question. After all, what is this ‘self,’ this character that you presume yourself to be? Is it fact or fiction?
I only speak of mind because everyone thinks there is a mind, but, there is no such thing as mind or no-mind that concerns me. I simply cut to the chase all together. All identifying with the body, the so-called mind and limited consciousness, none of that arises in me. I am completely out of that false business.
Understand the ending of all psychological phenomenon of a disconnected self in which you think you are is illusory. The whole business with the ego, the self, the conscious being, the me, the mine, the thinker and so on. You cannot end it, because you are it. The present moment, here, right now, the conscious self can never enter. The present moment is devoid of time. The self is a fictitious thing of time, formulated by the past as memory. Time and space only exist in your mind. So, when the mind as noise ends, where is time, where is space, where are you?
Why think so hard about it, it is very simple. The thing is our brain wants to complicate even the most simplest of things. To see the truth of this is to be free of it. It is to enter into a whole other life within this one. As long as there is a self that is called, me, myself and I, you are trapped in the bygone. See the fact of what I am saying and instantaneously you are free of all sorrow and suffering.
There was a time I wanted to scream in great joy because it is so beautiful to see this. I had to discover that 'I' could never discover the truth. That was the great turning point for me. The self must first reach that point of realization, that point of, 'I do not know.' You must see this fact completely, not merely listening to me telling you. You must see it for yourself that today, tomorrow or a hundred years from now, the conscious self, can never awaken to this. Then suddenly the fact of realizing this undergoes an immense transformation. The 'self' fades away like a cloud that was covering the sun and only then, that radiance beyond all things comes without provocation.
Now let us look further into your inquiry on perception. As long as there is a conscious self called 'me' that perceives, know that the fullness of perception is not there. The perception that I speak of is not there when the conscious self enters the psyche. For the self contains its own perception that is distorted, limited and bound by time and knowledge.
Within me, there is no personage that can be called myself. My head does not make a sound; it is completely still. I cannot put this perception into words. You must see it for yourself. Just remember, you will not understand until you actually see and understand this for yourself. This means, you simply drop the whole business of trying to understand and therefore using effort. To see that you do not understand is a movement of reality. See that you do not understand and let reality unfold from there. From where ever you are. Then you are seeing life 'as is' and not in the desire to become anything other than what you are. Being is a fact, becoming is a non-fact.
Now I am going to give you an illustration that may give you a slight glimpse of what I mean. Let us say you are standing on the beach looking right now at a beautiful sunset. In the moment, you are seeing this; there is no conscious self. That is, if you are at all attentive there is the actual beauty of that natural phenomenon. Then out of greed to continue seeing this wonder, the conscious identity only comes into being when you desire to capture the moment. You want to express it by saying, 'That is so beautiful!' Now the moment you think and react to it, the beauty is gone because the self has entered the happening. When the self is not there, then there is the full blossoming of beauty, which is holistic perception. However, the moment you register or recognize it as the sunset, beauty vanquishes and pleasure enters. Beauty is not of time and distance. Pleasure is of thought, beauty is not.
Now watch this clearly, so that you may see the splendor of it. When you at first see the beauty of the sunset, there is just perception. There is no entity within you that is perceiving! 'You,' the thinker, the perceiver, comes into being after the fact. Such intrinsic beauty is not a conscious act, dictated by you. Beauty comes into being when the self ends, when you are consciously not there. Realize that such beauty is beyond mind as thought, consciousness and unconsciousness. To see this clearly for yourself is a movement of wisdom. It is to live in paradise on earth.
