The Spiritual Power of Insight
What is insight? Where does one begin to probe into such a question? For there to be insight there must be clarity. Clarity, being a factor of perception is without obscurity. This means clear perception. Without clarity, there is no perception at all. So please, do you see the legitimacy of this. Where there is distortion of perception obviously there is no clarity and no insight. Then I ask, where does one go from here? The fact is I do not see clearly and so I have no insight. This is quite simple. All day the mind is constant babble, moving about, never resting, never still. So of course, one has no insight. Does insight mean, 'To see within' or does it include also the 'without?' If it excludes the other then it is limited. Now, in order for there to be insight, one must see clearly, wholly, the totality of life. A non-exclusive, holistic perception is the essence of insight. It is insight, which guides you within.
Because I do not see clearly, I do not have insight. How simple is that to understand? Then what will bring it about? All day the mind as thought is constantly moving, making noise. Is that what is preventing you from seeing clearly? As long as thought is constantly moving how can I see clearly, and in addition, have insight? So the problem is not 'how am I to have insight?' the problem is in my consciousness. What is preventing me from seeing? Are you watching this as I am going along? Do see the beauty of this. So, listen very closely so that you may understand completely all that we are discussing. The very instrument, the thinker, is asking 'how can I have insight?' and what I am saying is it is an erroneous question. Can the 'self,' which is the thinker, see beyond itself? Perhaps, that is a clearer way of putting it. As long as there is the thinker, how can there be insight? What I am asking is, can a mind, rapt and clouded by noise, open itself to insight?
Spiritual power is discovered within oneself.
Walk into this very slowly and with great care so that you may see the truth of this unfolding right before you. Let us see this fully and not be credulous. The word credulous means a readiness to believe on slight or uncertain evidence. We are not going to accept anything we do not see for ourselves. Do you understand this for yourself, so far? Perhaps, you want to accept what I say. Now, I am only going to point this out to you and realize that it is up to you to see it plainly for yourself. As long as I am blind by the ignorance of what I am, how can I see? This 'thinker' wants to discover something that he is not. He cannot. The very ending of thought is the secret passageway that leads to the unknown. Am I speaking so that you may understand? To say this is much too hard to comprehend is the 'self,' wanting to continue in its state of devastation and illusion. The disease produced by the ignorance of not knowing oneself, wants to continue and to spread its destruction. You want to continue making noise, chaos and more confusion. Now, what I am asking is, how could thought understand this when it is ones own incessant thinking that is creating the problem? The 'self,' which is formulated thought, must see this clearly and fully. In the very act of seeing this truth, it is that realization which brings freedom. It is up to you to see into this and understand it completely so that thought may end. It is here and now, you may awaken to any insights that await you. Actually, to see into the truth of this is insight. It is the understanding of this, which brings clarity and perception. Then you will know what it means to have a mind that is clear and silent. Not a clamoring, noisy brain that is full of problems and distractions. A mind not perturbed by the clouding of thought and its restless movement. In the end, all that clouds perception is gone, and only then, there is the awakening that brings clarity into the temple of ones own being.
