The Full Moon
Do you know what a parable is? A parable is a story with implanted meaning in which the conscious mind does not grasp or simply ignores. The purpose of a parable is to bypass the conscious self so that the deepest element of the story may be digested within. For most of us, we never seem to go very deep. Our so-called perception is rather shallow. Now the key to understanding anything is to listen without prejudice and resistance. That is the primary necessity of creating a parable or metaphor.
Now, I am going to tell you a story. A very simple one. And I ask that you listen holistically with the totality of your being, which includes your heart and mind so you may understand its meaning and not just my explanatory remarks pertaining to it.
Once upon a time, there were a group of men and women of various religious and scientific backgrounds and upbringings. So one day, they were all sitting in a room completely closed off from the outside world. Now, all night they debated and fought endlessly among each other and within themselves over the idea of whether or not there was a full moon in the sky that night. They were considered some of the most intelligent men and women throughout all the land. Some of them spoke rather elegantly from their own knowledge and understanding of how the universe was created and how it works. Then there were others who were filled with the knowledge of their past ancestors, which they attained from their religious scriptures, which they believed and expounded. While they debated among themselves, you could hear them proselytizing both near and far. The noise was so great that at times the house would tremble from all the commotion they created. This feud went on endlessly throughout the whole night with no end in sight. Suddenly and unexpectedly, a little boy appeared in the midst of them. He was quietly sitting in the center of them all completely unnoticed. Then all there eyes were on him before he even opened his mouth, for it was rare to even hear him speak. Softly, he placed his finger across his pouted lips symbolizing for all to be quiet, as his breathe whispered without words.
Everyone in that room irrespectively of their beliefs, ideas and concepts, were watching that little boy as he began to walk to the darkened window. Without force, he opened the window that was closed by all their ignorance and immediately light rushed into the darkness of their hearts, filling their whole being. High in the sky, the light of the full moon was there for all to see and take great delight. Their beliefs and disbeliefs had closed off that in which they sought. In an instant, the splendor of the full moon in all its glory was the revelation that solved their problems. In that moment, there was nothing to say, nothing to believe or disbelieve. The truth of that glorious sight was revealed and that was the end of all that they thought they knew and understood.
Now to go deeper, this child enters the world in which various groups of people proclaim to possess the way to the truth, exclusively. They claim their particular way is the only way to discover the truth of all life. However, the child who is in the heart of all of us is seemingly rather strange. Being quiet, he is watchful, sensitive and aloof. Nothing any one could say has any affect on him. Through direct perception, he could penetrate the falsities of this life and all its religions, beliefs, and faiths.
This child discovered a great blunder in which all of mankind is trapped. With great perseverance, he simply penetrated all their ideas by going around them all and revealed the truth for himself. He could see that each one asserted their claim that they were of the truth. This child decided, what would be the ultimate way to know which of them were of the real essence. He asked himself, what would be the ultimate solution. Very simple, he looked within to discover the truth for himself.
This is all he came to do. He came to say, drop everything that has been told to you and find the truth for yourself. Come and see for yourself, is his only concern. Why be concerned with world religions, faiths and beliefs? An actual seeing within oneself of the truth is the ultimate solution to all our problems.
An
infinite fire,
free of dark desire,
beyond all mortal things,
this eternal flame; love brings,
a joyous song my heart forever sings.
