The Spiritual Gathering

Adonis entered the bedroom while the baby was sleeping.  Quietly, he began speaking poetically.

As she slept, I listened to the calmness of her breath.  Standing still, I dared not move, for not a moment I wished to lose.  Silently, I listened to her gentle quietude.  Unperturbed, by a stranger in her room.  Peacefully, as she slept, my eyes filled with joy and I wept.

The Living room was full of curious people gathered to hear the Sayings of Adonis for the first time.  He sat quietly in front of them before he began to speak.

Adonis:  As we sit at ease, you may begin to relax, deeply. It is good to just sit together quietly let go and open up completely.   Now with me, as you listen attentively to my voice you may pay attention to every word and every inflection which includes the silence between these words.

I understand that some of you have questions and I look forward to listening and going into them with you.  Actually, I am rather excited to see how each of you think.

And I wonder, before we begin, do you see the importance of starting from a clean slate.  To see clearly, we must look at everything anew.  A totally new start so that we may penetrate the very depth of all that we will be discussing.  To see clearly, we must drop all the religions of the world, let go of all the beliefs, ideas and theories so we may see this life for ourselves; you understand?

As you may see on the News all the turmoil, chaos, brutality and degradation throughout the world, I wonder how you feel about all this.  Or, like so many, are you waiting for the politicians to bring about a radical change.

Looking at the state of this world and our lives, we are going to examine and see what is our role, if any, in the degradation of this existence.

So how do we begin such a discussion?  How do we climb this psychological mountain which is ones self?  Before we go any further into this let us be clear.  Right from the start, I want you to understand three words that I think have significance.  The word credulous which means to be gullible and accept what someone says without looking into it clearly for oneself, so that its ones own understanding.  Then there is the word hearsay which means to hear what others say and repeat it without knowing the truth for oneself.  And then there is the fact of this word, which means that which is actual.

So, when it comes to spiritual understanding, what is vital is that we listen with all our heart and mind.  let us not concern ourselves with ideas but with facts.  In such a gathering, we listen and explore this life, holistically.  In the seeing of this life, just as it is, there is spiritual freedom.  The freedom to observe and learn.  Only when one is truly free is there understanding and love.

Spirituality is to awaken the wholeness of existence.  We are here to observe and learn every aspect of this life.  And if we are truly diligent, maybe the truth will awaken within us.  This truth which is the wholeness of life is eternal.  It transcends death.  To discover what is death we must not attempt to approach it with fear but with understanding.

When there is death while living, ones whole life becomes anew.  There is a renewal of ones whole being beyond any idea or concept formulated by the mind of man.  And as human beings, the holy presence is open to us when we die of ourselves.  This is the ground of wisdom:  Know thyself.  To know oneself is greater than trying to know God.  The fact is, God can not be known.  When we discover what we are, then perhaps we may discover the mystery that is beyond this life.
