Enlightenment Comes When Darkness Falls
A profound conversation between Adonis and a young Christian associate.
Paul: I am a Christian and I am certain that Jesus Christ died for my sins and that he is the only way to God.
Adonis: If you say the Christ died for you to have the fullness of life, then surely he died in vain, for you do not have the abundance of life within you, irrespectively of whether I say so or not. To understand what I am saying to you, by being vigilant, keenly alert, perhaps you may be free of all darkness within. To understand me, it is your responsibility to see that you are deceived by your own deception. Your religion, like all the others, has given you certain beliefs and you believe them, how sad. You are told that you have a soul that needs to be perfected and saved in order to enter heaven, whatever that is. The thing is, you know nothing about any soul or heaven and yet the preachers, priests and pastors are selling you their nonsense. Also, because of your greed, fear and desire, you are being taken for a ride of illusion like a tortured animal to the slaughterhouse. I come to show you this but your own distortion prevents the seeing of what I am saying to you. To you I am a stranger, but for me, you are a friend because I see clearly that we are all one. In your beliefs, you will be forever believing because you are terribly lost. Not because I say that you are lost but because you are lost and that is the verity of your life.
Now, let us be simple so that we may actually find out what is real. Why not look at what you do understand and start from there? That which is born or created must die, that is a fact. Whatever integrates must disintegrate. This means, anything that was put together must dissolve. The thing is you are afraid of death and the possibility of an afterlife, which has distorted your perception of life. As I have said so often, be responsible for all you say and most of all; be vigilant of all that you are told. You have been told and then you accepted the idea that there is something of your personality that is eternal. This is all delusional. You want to continue but you fail to realize there is nothing of you to continue. Ultimately, you must end. Eventually you must come to an end, which is death. The problem is you want to postpone the inevitable. And so, others come along and sell you that dream that you desire, you cling to it and are now lost in it.
To be a slave to anything is an awful thing. To be a slave and not know it is truly appalling, atrocious and a cruel shame. You have been given something and you have not examined the truth or falseness of it. Many of you claim that you have studied your particular religion, but how could you when you have such closed, distorted minds. As leaders, your preachers, priests and pastors, cannot give you spiritual guidance because just like you, they too are blind, lost and confused. However, they refuse to tell you what is true, that they are utterly bemused. Through corruption, they deceive you with their gestures, rituals, and ceremonies which leave you abused. They have not discovered the truth for themselves and so prevent you from doing so as well. They entertain and entangle your mind so you cannot see that no beliefs can ever set you free. These are facts in which the more you resist, the more facts of life persist. The more you try to escape what is being heard, the more you realize the truth of these trenchant words. Now, with me, it is really rather simple to listen with your whole being so that you may be free of all illusions. The thing is you have never looked at life openly, clearly, simply.
Your religion like all religions is false. It does not matter rather I say so or not, it remains a falsity. What burns you actually is not the fact that your religion is false, but the thing is you are deeply concerned that this person is saying so. I am a living revolution who stands completely alone. I have entered the living flame of eternity and what I say is of what I see and not from any scriptures, philosophies or ideologies. This realization within me is truth and no one can take it away from me because it was not given. This realization transcends all concepts and ideas of the mind and heart. It is up to you to discover the truth of life for yourself. My very existence points the way of no way and as a human being, if I can do this, then so can you.
As long as you live in the darkness of not knowing yourself, there is no abundance, joy or compassion within you. Can we ever discover what is beyond the darkness of ignorance? If there is anything beyond the obscurity of this existence, you must discover that for yourself. We can no longer depend on what others may or may not have said. Neither the ancient nor the modern thinkers have solved our fundamental problems. For each of us must discover the truth of life on our own. If you are a Christian, you can no longer depend on what your contradictory scriptures have told you. As long as you belong to a particular religion that proclaims to be a map that leads you to the eternal, beyond this dark life, seeing that you have not found what you are seeking, why do you continue to cling to it? Is it out of fear and greed that you hold to the map that has not lead you to the source and the end of all life? Your religion may tell you that the kingdom of god is within, and yet, you do not look. Why is that? Through dissimulation, which means to hide under a false appearance, you have been deceived. You are the deceiver and the deceived. Those before you have given you the disease of ignorance and in like turn, you shall give that same ignorance to your children, your friends and your people. How poignant and pathetic.
As a Christian, surely you are vain, conceited, and arrogant. Your very beliefs have you thinking you have exclusivity to the Truth. Actually, you do not have God; you only have your religion, which is not the Truth. In your superficial understanding, your religion is greater than your God. Your religion has given you fear, arrogance and the stench of pride, but not God, not Truth. With your daily devotions, prayers and observances, I ask you where is God in all this. Truth is one thing and your religion is another.
All of you have learned the ability of being pretentious, phony, and fake with your outward appeal of glamour and deception. But within yourselves you are the living dead. Without the sacredness of life within, you are completely deserted; cold, empty and desolate like an unkempt grave. Not because I say so, but because it is so. You can deceive yourselves and others but why couldn’t you deceive me with your bogus religiosity. Is it because I do not accept the menu for the food? Your fancy clothes, expensive cars and luxurious homes could not deceive or prevent me from seeking the truth. I come to you for the truth and you try to offer me an ideal life. I asked you for the truth and instead you offered me the illusion of being pious. Therefore, I had to go out on my own and look within myself. I unveiled this truth within myself and that makes me a great threat to all your falsehood.
Paul: If you are not into Jesus Christ, then why do some of your Sayings sound similar to his words?
Adonis: Truth is Truth. It is not that I emulate, imitate or sound like anyone; it’s just that I speak what I see and reluctantly must use words that I feel are at the time appropriate. If something is true and I see the truth of it I speak that without being anchored to it. I may use any means and not be bound by them. You see, when I speak to a Christian, Muslim, Buddhist or Hinduist, they say I sound like their particular spiritual leader or teacher. When I speak to Vedantists, they say I sound similar to their exponents, who spent their whole life teaching in vain to no avail and no affect on the world. In fact, the other day when I was speaking to an atheist, he says I sound like an atheist! This may seem strange but true. Actually, I find it all very amusing. In all honesty, I have never studied any kind of philosophy, yoga or meditation, foreign or domestic. I am just an ordinary human being who discovered something beyond this life in which you may call God, but that sacred essence has no given name. Intuitively, how I express what I see is a matter of the moment. Like I said, I may use any means and I am not bound or attached to any particular point of view.
Paul: You cannot go directly to God; you must go through our Jesus Christ.
Adonis: That is what you say. Your words are not your own, it is all hearsay of what you have been told. How interesting, it is like a two ton elephant with his immense leg tied to a post by a thin piece of string unable to break free because of its training. Like so, the world tells you, you can not do something and you can’t. Surely, words have power! You accept and then repeat what another tells you. Being trapped in an illusion, what else can you say? Being a slave yourself, you desire to enslave me, also. I tell you I have awaken within me by going directly to the source and you say that I cannot. Understand that I have awakened to this absolute freedom. This freedom is untouchable by all religions and faiths. From my lips to your ears, this freedom cannot be conveyed through mere words. You must see for yourself and not depend on what others may or may not have said. Being imprisoned within the confines of your religion you do not have full comprehension of life. Your own ignorance prevents you from seeing what I am saying to you. I have bypassed all your religions, faiths, saviors and philosophers. To see the truth of this is the movement of awakening. When at once you throw away the whole idea of finding the truth tomorrow or some other time in the future, perhaps then you will discover the beauty of the living present, here and now.
My friend, only concern yourself with the actual discovery of the truth and not anything less than the truth. If you should look and find, you will rejoice in great joy and ecstasy. You will see there is nothing to discuss or debate with another. The promise land, the ground of all being, is within you. To awaken to this, one must reach the very end of all that is known, the end of all religious and mundane beliefs. For no religion can lead you to the supreme reality. In this living peace, there is nothing that can hold or capture this sacred essence.
When the darkness of yourself falls, the glory of the lord awakens within you. This glory calls out to you. It is only through death will you discover that in which your heart eternally seeks. This infinite flame is the Supreme intelligence beyond all things. It is the source of all life. When that living essence awakens within, truth reigns in the wholeness of your being.
