                                   Spiritual Education Within

Question:  Why do you stress the importance of ending the self so much instead of focusing on each person's development of being a good and righteous person?  What is your primary method of teaching your Sayings?  Are the Sayings your only media of pointing?

Adonis:  Look, your only concern is getting out of the way so the infinite may function within your life.  This is not something that can be theorized.  Intelligently and effortlessly, you have to be put out.  The self must be evicted, completely extinguished.  Your own so-called will must end so that the clarity of perception within may come and act.  It is one or the other. Either you or that in which there is no negotiating.   What I am saying is uncompromising.  I am completely adamant about this because there is nothing to debate.  It is to see into the reality of life.  You see the self wants to remain, be allies with the truth.  It cannot.  The truth does not mingle with the false.  There is no grey area in this.  Darkness has no place in the real.

Most people are not curious.  That tends to be the great impasse.  I start at the bottom of the mountain of consciousness and then climb with them until we transcend mountain and all.  But, I refuse to give you abstractions of truth for you to play with.  You must look within yourself and that is all.

Thought and the ending of thought, is the commonality that I use to begin speaking and walking others into the unknown.  All our lives, all day and night we are thinking and yet I cannot find one human who knows what is thought.  Do you see how elementary I must start?  As human beings, we are so miseducated when it comes to understanding ourselves.  There is no religion or philosophy that will lead you to understanding yourself or the truth.  Besides, out of ignorance, we will turn it into doctrine and forget all about the truth.  That is what all the religions of the world are!  They all have a menu but not the living food.  The eternal essence is all but forgotten because there is nothing tangible for you to take hold of.  We are clinging to religion and not truth, not God.  God cannot be grasped, held and therefore captured under any circumstances.  All the religions of the world are trying to systematize the truth to make it digestible by the darkness of their beliefs.  It is like trying to give water a fixed shape.  It is shapeless, formless.  If I give it a fixed structure then it will become the very thing I am trying to free humanity of.  Do not be afraid that no one will understand the Sayings if I do not give it a fixed structure.  Truth has no form and no composition.  Out of ignorance, they will take it as a way, a path to the pathless.  If I did that, inevitably, the Sayings will become another religion, philosophy, doctrine or mere propaganda for the world to play with.

Every enlightened being fully realize that truth cannot be formularized or grasped by the self.  Nevertheless, blind followers do not understand this.  So I must point this out as raw as possible.  Then when you awaken to it, what you do with it or what it does with you, remains to be seen.

Of course, not just with words can I affect others.  My presence, love and compassion are forever pointing, calling out to all who are willing to listen.

Question:  How beautiful are your words!  I love to converse with you.  You are correct, there is no real outcome of stockpiling all this knowledge and not putting it to use.  In applying perception, you awaken to that wisdom.  I like how you say learning is holy and therefore sacred.  I never understood it this way.  I want to know why you would say learning is holy ground.  Would you be so kind to explain a little further, when you say, 'to understand oneself is to have no conclusion about yourself.'  Excuse me if I sound like I do not comprehend, but I like to be clear, so I may bring my understanding with more love and assurance.

Adonis:  The sacredness of learning is the understanding that the self is not there when you are absorbed in finding out anything in life.  Therefore, the absence of 'you' is truly a sacred event.  Now to understand oneself you cannot have any fixed concepts or preconceived notions of what you think you are.  Because you are a human being under constant change, how can you have a fixed point of what you are?  To find out what you are is truly an extraordinary thing to discover.  What is important is to watch and listen to yourself, and then you discover who you are in actuality.

Please, understand me clearly.  I am not a learnt man, I am constantly learning.  In each moment, there is this discovery of life in all things, without accumulation of knowledge.  I have no interest in stockpiling knowledge.  For me, to be wise means to live in a state of knowing, watching and learning.  To live in this state of endless learning is truly a sacred affair.

Now to understand oneself is to have no conclusions about yourself.  To know yourself is a movement from moment to moment, watching and listening to all your actions, inward and outward, without verdict.  It is to be free of measurement, judgment and resistance when you want to see what you are.  This is the process of knowing oneself.

All the religions of the world speak of knowing oneself but they speak only of that which they know nothing about.  To be honest, to discover truth is simple, the thing is all the religions, philosophies, and sciences have clouded this fact.  Be simple my friend, do not look for the truth of life to be something formulated by your complexities.
