Spirituality And The End of All Sorrow

A young child waits in an orphanage day and night for someone to come for him, but no one ever does.

In this, there is suffering, in this there is sorrow.

One mistake and a teenager will spend the rest of his life in prison on death row without the hope of ever being released.

In this, there is suffering, in this there is sorrow.

A little girl lost her mother to a deadly disease and now she is all alone with no one to call her own.

In this, there is suffering, in this there is sorrow.

An old man searched for God his whole life and never discovered the Reality.

In this, there is suffering, in this there is sorrow.

A young man has nowhere to rest his head, because he has no home, so he takes his own life.

In this, there is suffering, in this there is sorrow.

An old woman lives alone in isolation without family or friends to care for her.

In this, there is suffering, in this there is sorrow.

A mother cries herself to sleep each night because she has no food to feed her children.

In this, there is suffering, in this there is sorrow.

Now, I ask you as a human being living this life in which there is so much suffering and sorrow, what is suffering?  Is there an answer to solve the sorrows of the world?  Do you see it, feel the reality of it, or is it just an idea?  Is suffering the inherited fate of humanity?  Is suffering the outcome of ignorance?  Is there no end to it at all?  Obviously, no one has truly solved it.  Each of us can see the truth of this in our everyday lives.  With all the ugliness in the world, what is one to do?  To escape it through drugs, religion, supposition and all the rest of it, has no meaning.  Therefore, I ask you deeply and seriously to walk through this inquiry with me.  See can we, each of us discover the end of all sorrow.

Because we are trapped in our ideas and beliefs about sorrow, sorrow remains.  To be serious about this is to explore into the significance, without the desire to turn away and just look with the totality of ones whole being without flinching.  Simply let the fire of sorrow burn itself out through the power of attentiveness and awareness.  This is a non-movement without effort.  Complete negation of all things.  In this extinguishing, the 'self' ends.

Spirituality is the end of all psychological suffering.

To see that the 'self' is sorrow requires the power of keen watchfulness.  It requires a simple look at life and the art of not turning away from what you see.  Any escape into an idea of sorrow is the movement of fear.  To find the truth of sorrow you must look wholeheartedly, letting what you see burn until even the smoke and the ashes of suffering are no more.  It is to experience the fire and pass completely through the inferno that is blazing within you.  It is here the 'self' and all its belongings, ends.

When 'you' are not, where is sorrow, where is the shadow of darkness and suffering?  When you, as this separate 'self,' are vanquished, compassion awakens within you.  Then you understand that the Glorious One is love.  In fact, the will of the ‘self’ and its ignorance is vanquished in the light of that heavenly glory.  The answer to suffering comes in the horizon of a compassionate heart of love and boundless joy.  When you are full of love and immeasurable joy, you are the untouchable and the darkness of sorrow has no meaning.  In reality, to understand this, is the greatest blessing.  In truth, one transcends all things.  Through spiritual peace, one overcomes the shadow of darkness.  Through love, one overcomes all the sorrows of the world.
