                                 depression and spirituality

Question:  So many of us have been diagnosed with depression.  What is depression?

Adonis:  A few weeks ago, I was visiting a woman who is on medication for depression.  Shortly, after I arrived she stopped taking her medicine.  She seemed to be able to function and cognize quite well.  Then three months later, I told her I would be leaving soon and so, the next day she told me, she had to start back on her medication.  Now I wonder was she aware of what she was saying.  Did she need the medication?  When she was taking the medication did it produce the desired results?  All this has to be examined to have the understanding of ones life.  With medication, what is ones desired outcome?

Is depression the outcome of genetic disposition, environment or nurturing; ones parental upbringing?  There are times we all may feel down or under the weather in which we may call that a form of depression or melancholy.  But, according to the medical field there is supposedly a condition of depression that is considered debilitating.  They say such a state of clinical depression has a biological cause; a chemical imbalance.  So, I wonder if that's true.  I do not know if you have ever questioned this before.  Or, like so many, you simply accepted it as true.

It is interesting how they claim to have medication for just about every ailment of mankind.  They have the answer to the symptoms but not the cure.  The disease continues while they supposedly treat the symptoms.  The outward expressions of what they call symptoms of a disease.

Psychologically, when you say you are depressed, what does that basically mean?  The sadness, the anxiety, and the sorrow are all formed out of fear and ones resistance to the facts of life.  Can you face the facts of life?  See things don’t always go the way we plan them too or expect them too.  Can you change with the movements of life?  One has to be opened, flexible and resilient.  It is our resistance to change that causes deep conflict within us.  Surely, one can see the intelligence in this.  Can you look at life, your life, 'as is?'  Simply, flow with what you see.  Do you see this?  Understand the fact that life is constantly changing.  Why do we resist change?  Why do you stand in resistance to the changes of life?  Can you flow with the so-called ups and downs of your life?  Fully observe the facts of your life and that spiritual perception comes and burns away all such thoughts.  To be free of such thinking is a movement of spiritual awakening so that you may live in abundance beyond the wake of all sorrow and suffering.
