The art of breathing is one of the most vital skills that a human being can develop in order to vitalize his well being. The ability to breathe deeply assists in the body-mind relationship to create a deep relaxation in order to be a healthy and calm individual. There is a very natural way of breathing in which you may develop in your spiritual life, which is really beneficial. This skill is simple and if done properly, you will notice an immediate change in your physical and mental well-being. Above all, please, do not strain, let nature take its course.
I suggest that you stand or sit perfectly upright with your back straight and chin level. Now without expanding the upper chest and shoulder, slowly inhale through your nose focusing on expanding your abdomen, lower back and the perineum (area between anus and scrotum/vagina). By letting the lower torso swell like a balloon, allow your body to expand outward without using force taking in as much air as you can, then slowly exhale through your mouth like you are blowing out a candle. Repeat this procedure for about ten minutes each day. By daily deliberate practice you will slowly find yourself breathing the correct way in which will greatly benefit ones health.
Feel at ease as you inhale and exhale without pausing brings your whole being into rhythm with all life. It is a very natural way of breathing. By breathing correctly, you will find yourself becoming very relaxed under all circumstances. Spiritually, this form of breathing is very helpful when confronting any given situation. Especially any time you feel yourself becoming anxious. Just focus on proper breathing and let worries and concerns flow from your being. Above all, do not stop breathing! This is actually a common occurrence among many when in hectic situations. If you focus on your breathing, the nervousness will subside.

Spiritual Freedom In Meditation
Now, there is certain amount of groundwork necessary to develop in order to awaken your spiritual life. Learning how to breathe, put your life in order and maintaining a healthy life is paramount when it comes to spirituality. Breathing is a central part of an integrated life and a great measure of your health. Proper breathing promotes relaxation, which calms the body and mind. When you are nervous, by focusing on your breathing you will be calm in just about any given situation.
Realize that when one learns to breathe efficiently, the natural process of meditation flows freely and manifests as an integral part of ones being. Now, the subject of meditation can be rather controversial. So for our purpose I will keep it very simple. To understand what meditation is, it is necessary to understand what it is not. Through negation we will discover what it actually is. No one can tell you what meditation is. The fact of meditation can not be told from one to another. So, the first thing is to realize that the art of meditation is devoid of any particular technique, system or method. What this means is that in meditation there is no meditating. Do not worry, it is not complex. Just it requires you to have ones own experience. What I want you to do is throw away any ideas, preconceived notions or concepts you may have of what you think meditation is or is not. Perhaps, you have noticed that when I mentioned the word meditation, your consciousness began to search and refer to its definition of meditation. Now, the definition you have of meditation is not meditation. Please listen carefully for a moment and you will discover something truly beautiful. In a nutshell, understand that meditation without form is simply the observation and ending of the conscious processes of the noise inside your head without using effort. Which means you must go into it yourself. I can not use any force whatsoever. Spiritually, there is no persuasion that can lead you into meditation. You must enter the sacred grounds of your own volition.
Spiritual Silence Beyond The Mind
Do you notice how your mind is constantly talking incessantly even when your mouth is closed? What if I told you there is a way in which you can turn that off? What if I told you that many of your problems in this life stem from all that noise going on inside of you? So, instead of me telling you, why not let me point it out to you in which you will see for yourself the extraordinary power you have within. Once you feel the power of meditation you will find it very interesting and a great delight. Through meditation, one discovers the art of knowing oneself.
What we are going to do is sit up in a chair, preferably in the quietude of your room or outdoors in a secluded area in which you will not be disturbed for at least a while. Now be as still as possible with your eyes open and not moving about, looking without the desire to move. Now, feel your heart beating in your chest and feel the natural rhythm of your breathing process letting the breath move in and out without breaking the natural process. Simply observe everything, completely. Now, simultaneously observe your thoughts, feelings and emotions that are passing within your mind without any censorship. Let whatever thoughts and emotions that arise, flow ceaselessly. Listen and watch with great attentiveness without trying to direct what is being said or formulated in your mind. Simply let whatever comes to mind flower completely and as this is taking place you are observing without trying to control what is taking place. Do this until you sense it is enough. Do not over do it. Listen and let nature take its course. Do this consistently when you feel it is necessary to quiet the mind of its endless noise so you may see clearly.
Spiritually, as you begin to understand yourself, you may discover that meditation is actually the greatest thing that you can use to develop confidence, overcome fear and break many habits. But, beyond its many qualities of the mind, it is a doorway in which the mind becomes still and that which is beyond the mind may enter your being.
When at once you learn the art of breathing correctly and awakening that quietude within, the doorway which transcends this life is opened before you. When the mind and breath is still, the awakening comes. With right breathing and meditation, you may discover the power of perception. This is to develop your sensitivity as a fully integrated human being which is the pathless path of spirituality. By paying attention from moment to moment, the mind becomes still and silent. And in so doing, without invitation, the source of all things awakens in you and it is then that you will understand what enlightenment is. Spiritually, it is that glorious presence, which cannot be grasped by mind or captured by any religion, philosophy or the absurdity of belief. Only you can awaken to this eternal source of all things.
